So, I have a lot of posts I want to share, some more important than others…
But lately, I have noticed that I’ve been helping girls learn the technique of Pin up!
Since the 40’s and 50’s is my FAV. era (fashion wise)..I have to blog this now! hehe.
Also, there are so many “model pages” for you to show off your photo’s! Make sure you do your research on the site first, once you do… take advantage of it 😉

Awesome people. great groups..amazing site… just saying! =)
Do you know what Pin up really is? or how it started? If not…Today is your lucky day! =)
::History lesson time!::
Before I say too much, I am getting this information from my favorite Pin up website! you MUST check it out!!! They explain things more easily than I can, when It comes to history haha.
Pin up bloomed during WWII, the military would receive these images and hang them in lockers, in their pillow (hehe),etc..
I was told that alot of the reason why they loved them, is because 1) It reminded them that their is still beauty in this world (not just war) 2) It gave them something to look forward too when they got home!…Finding their lucky lady 😉
This is more info that I got from the website above:
What made pin ups very popular is the women in the pictures. Pin up models are usually glamour models, actresses and fashion models. Imagine the happiness of the male population with these pictures and women, who admire most of the pin up models back in the days because some of them are icons or known personalities.
side from the facts written above, this can also refer to drawings, paintings and other illustrations done in emulation of photos. This term was first attested to in English in 1941. However, the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s. The images represented in pin ups could be cut out of magazines, newspapers, postcards, chromo-lithographs and many more. Most of these photos appear on calendars which are meant to be pinned up. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced.
Most of the pin ups were photos of celebrities who were considered as sex symbols.
“This began the fascination of the whole America with pin up and it gained more popularity since then.
Thanks to the artistic and clever artists that made them even more famous like Gil Elvgren and George Petty. They created some of the most memorable, finely detailed “Americana” ever produced. Where will you see their works? In calendars, magazine covers and matchbooks. These resources have become the personal view into the personal lives of the girl next door. Their popularity continuously grow and its sophistication became well-known through the 1950’s.
The magazine articles that features the favorite artists that time became household names. Movies started to be produced about pin up artists and models during the World War II. In fact, most of the actresses were pinups first. For example, Marilyn Monroe. Not all of you may not know this but she was the favorite model of Earl Moran before and after she hit the big screen. A lot of known actresses back in the days have posed for pin up photos.”
” pinup has been re-discovered and introduced to the new generations of people around the world. Today, the art of seduction is becoming appreciated and loved once again by a lot of people. They are truly a classic!“
Now that you have A LITTLE backround… We need to get the look!
The one thing I LOVE about Pin up, is that you dont need to be 5’9, size 0….
In fact, curves are amazing in the world of Pin up! But confidence is key! You must be confident, love your body girl!
To me, there are 5 major aspects to Pin up..
What did I do when I started pin up?
RESEARCH! lol..But, I researched Marilyn Monroe, I will reference her quite often through out my blog. She is a huge inspiration to me. The fact that she had curves, embraced them, and showed other women it’s okay to be shaped like a female! And- I will actually do her make up look for you on here (with pictures lol,I cant do videos yet..I dont know how to edit that stuff :-p)
Marilyn had her own technique of doing her hair and make up… So ill make that my next post!
When I researched her, my first stop was:
1) Wardrobe- You need to know ahead of time what kind of wardrobe Pin up typically wears. If you realize your not comfortable with it, that’s okay! Plus, there are always things you can do to tweek it a little 😉 . Always stay classy.
I am a firm believer that when it comes to modeling..less is not more. The more you show, the more you give, making it so your not letting the imagination do what it does! lol. Im talking in terms of Pin up.
You dont need to be naked…or in a Bra and underwear.. Corsets are amazing and flattering! Throw on some boy shorts, and even a silk robe!(Just make sure you play around with the robe, showing confidence)
Pin up posing has it’s own style. It’s extremely fun, exciting, and creative!
I was going to explain them, until I saw the website does a great job explaining some of the most popular poses lol.
Here are some poses from me! =)
Yes, they addressed the A,E,I,O,U on their site… But, another thing to do is literally act out,and say the following…” UH OHHH!!”, “OH MY GOODNESS!” “SHHH” “HAYYY!” lol.. and of course the Kissy face.. put your hand to your mouth and literally blow a kiss to the camera. I learned that when you just pretend your doing so,the photo’s dont look right.. If you really do it, the photo’s come out cute!
4) Hair and Make up are crucial for pin up. In my opinion, its what seperates Pin up from other genres. For hair, think bobby pins, waves/curls, etc..
I highly suggest watching this Video of one person who inspired me to do make up..and hair.
Shes showing you how to do the classic Rosie the Riveter Hair do! Now, at any point after she makes the poof on the top of her head, you can curl the rest..put all your hair to one side, and on the other side..she puts the bandanna on, as long at your hairs curly, you can keep it like that! You dont need to do the bandanna…even though its awesome =)
This is to show how to do Audrey Hepburn make up look…Pay attention to the eye make up..
lol if you really want to get into character… here is Betty boops look<3
Need a quick fix?
Now, Im going to tell you the quickest way I know how to do a very basic Pin up hair style….
Because at a shoot, things are very fast paced.. Sometimes you have time to get into the hair, sometimes you dont.
So, You’ll need a brush, BOBBY PINS!, hair spray, mouse, and a thick curling iron!
Start by putting curling mouse in your hair, and spray some hair spray in your hair..then quickly brush through, so you can actually curl it..
Then curl the bottom hair first. followed by the top! Once your done curling, part your hair to the side.
Similar to Kandees poof above, your going to take a section of your hair,to poof and pin!
I personally dont need to tease my hair, but if you want to, it is A O K!
Then your going to take your poof, and what I do is twist it 2 times, then poof the section up. Take atleast 2 bobby pins, and pin them in. You can adjust your poof as well! Then, the side of your part that is smaller, take that hair and put it all on the side where most of your hair is. And add a flower on the opposite side! (I will take step by step photo’s for this!-and will add to the Marilyn Monroe Make up post) These photo’s are to give you a general idea … On the WWII SS John W. Brown ship, it was about 100* outside,my hair lost its curls pretty quickly! the other photo shows you the flower idea 😉
Then spray hair spray like crazy…and your good to go! 😉
This video is from VividMakeup – its a good video for classic pin up hair!
